NATIONAL TREE DAY: Tillabéry

The President of the Republic HE Mohamed Bazoum is expected in Tillabéri, this Tuesday, August 02, 2022, as part of the festivities marking the 62nd anniversary of Independence Day coupled with the National Tree Day celebrated every August 03.

The President of the Republic will officially launch the tree-planting ceremony at the Gendarmerie camp in the city of Tillabéri, the site chosen this year for the occasion.

Indeed, instituted since 1975 as a national tree festival, it is an opportunity for all Nigeriens to plant trees to sustainably preserve the country’s ecosystem by restoring land and thus fighting against desertification.

Located in the far west of the country and watered by the Niger River, the Tillabéri region covers an area of 91,199 km2 and abounds in significant agricultural, forestry, wildlife and fisheries potential, an abundance of water resources, the availability of large pastoral spaces as well as predispositions to provide hydroelectric resources.

It should also be remembered that the Tillabéri region has been facing insecurity for several years due to terrorist attacks carried out by armed groups that roam the region. Celebrating August 3 in Tillabéri is an opportunity to restore hope to this so bruised population and to show the compassion of all the people of Niger to this region.
