National Cadet Corps Celebrates 62nd African Union Day with Parade in Accra

Accra: The National Cadet Corps marked the 62nd African Union (AU) Day with a ceremonial guard of honour at the AU Square in Accra, celebrating Africa’s cultural diversity and advocating for a united and prosperous future.

According to Ghana News Agency, the event took place on Saturday under the theme ‘Promoting Discipline and Loyalty Among the Youth.’ It featured participation from more than 60 cadets representing the Forces Senior High School, Burma Camp, and Oreilly Senior School. The parade was reviewed by Dr Clement Apaak, the Deputy Minister of Education, who praised the National Cadet Corps for their Pan-Africanist spirit in commemorating AU Day, urging the youth to emulate this initiative.

Dr Apaak highlighted the significance of the Corps’ efforts, stating, “The National Cadet Corps initiative to commemorate this day is most commendable, demonstrating your commitment to Pan-Africanism. We appreciate your efforts in preserving Africa’s history and promoting unity among the youth.” He emphasized the importance of discipline and loyalty, calling them the backbone of development.

Mr Nicholas Nii Tettey-Amarteifio, the National Cadet Coordinator General, echoed the need for the youth to embody the values of sacrifice and dedication. He pointed out that these values were crucial for driving progress in Ghana and across the continent. The commemoration included a wreath-laying ceremony on behalf of the youth of Ghana, the AU, and the Government, accompanied by patriotic songs such as ‘Yen Ara Y’asaase Ni’.
