Ministry of Health Enhances Vaccine Storage in Turkana North


Nairobi: The County Chief Officer for Preventive and Promotive Health, Janerose Tioko, has delivered two refrigerators to the Riokomor community in Turkana North. The county government procured the refrigerators to improve vaccine storage and strengthen the Cold Chain System, ensuring that vaccines are available promptly for the community.



According to Kenya News Agency, Chief Tioko assessed ongoing health projects at the Riokomor Health Facility to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services. During her visit, she engaged with the public, encouraging effective collaboration between the health facility, contractors, and the community in relation to ongoing health infrastructure construction.



The Chief Officer also announced plans for the county to construct a perimeter fence around the facility. This measure aims to enhance patient safety and secure medical supplies. Meanwhile, Daniel Lokiriama, the Medical Officer of Health for Turkana North, urged Community Health Promoters to reach remote communities, promoting health-seeking behavior and improving healthcare access.



The Riokomor community has been recognized as Open Defecation Free due to their full adoption of latrine usage for safe faecal waste disposal. The residents also maintain healthy hygiene and sanitation routines. The community expressed gratitude for the implemented security measures and is committed to collaborating with the county while advocating for solutions to their challenges.



Among those in attendance were Nominated Member of County Assembly Esther Apetet of Lakezone Ward, Chief Joseph Ekoyen of Lakezone Ward, Ward Administrator Gabriel Ebei of Lakezone Ward, Riokomor health workers, contractor Joseph Lokolio, and Simon Etelon, Engineer from Public Works.
