Liptako: The Liptako Regional Directorate of Labor and Social Protection initiated an awareness session on workplace accidents and occupational diseases in Dori on Monday, September 8, 2025. This meeting brought together stakeholders from the educational sector, particularly from primary, post-primary, and secondary education.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Sahel Regional Director of Labor and Social Protection, Nicaise Badolo, explained to the participants the innovations introduced by Law No. 003-2021/AN of April 1, 2021. This law concerns the social security system applicable to public officials in Burkina Faso.
He highlighted that the first major advance is in the form, with the grouping of the different branches managed by the Autonomous Civil Servants’ Pension Fund (CARFO) into a single, more accessible document. The reform extends the scope of the regime to parliamentary civil servants, local authority workers, and employees of public establishments not governed by the labor code.
A module was also devoted to occupational risks, informing participants about the nature of workplace accidents and occupational illnesses, as well as the mechanisms for their management. Mr. Badolo emphasized the importance for every worker to know the steps to follow in the event of a disaster, as well as the rights available to victims and their beneficiaries. The goal is to guarantee better social protection for those affected and to limit the socio-economic consequences of such events.
Participants expressed their satisfaction at the meeting. Alou Dicko, a teacher from Bani, noted that the discussions provided a better understanding of the rights and obligations related to social security coverage for public employees and an understanding of the issues surrounding occupational risks. Other participants praised the clarity of the explanations provided, believing that this awareness-raising will contribute to strengthening prevention and care for workers.
Through this initiative, the Liptako Regional Directorate of Labor and Social Protection aims to strengthen the culture of prevention and inform employees about new legal provisions regarding social security. The approach aims to improve worker protection and create a safer and fairer working environment.
