Kisii: A section of leaders from various parts of the country have urged Kenyans to embrace peace, unity, and cohesion in a bid to spur the country’s economic growth. The leaders also criticized those allegedly using the death of Albert Ojwang from Homabay County, who allegedly died in the hands of police officers, for their political mileage, saying the law should take its due course.
According to Kenya News Agency, the leaders spoke at Nyanturago grounds in Nyaribari Masaba Constituency, Kisii County, during a fundraising event for self-help groups in the area. They emphasized the need for public unity to prevent events similar to the 2007/2008 post-election violence. Likoni MP Mishi Mboko from Mombasa County noted that violence was the worst that could happen to Kenya and stressed that Kenyans were not ready for a repeat.
Mboko highlighted that all Kenyans should be proud of their country and take responsibility for protecting it, to prevent citizens from seeking asylum in neighboring countries. South Mogirango MP Silvanus Osoro criticized politicians who allegedly used Homabay’s Alfred Ojwang’s demise in a police cell to advance their political mileage. He urged security agencies to expedite investigations to uncover what happened to Ojwang.
Osoro also noted that no Kenyan should die in police cells and stressed that politicians should avoid using goons during demonstrations to destroy property. Lurambi MP Titus Kamala from Kakamega County stated that the current budget was divided relatively well to cater to all sectors of the economy.
Farouk Kibet, the president’s aide, called for peaceful cohesion and patience, urging citizens to reject ethnic and divisive politics. The event was hosted by Kisii County Woman Rep Doris Aburi.
