KURA Launches Road Safety Campaign in Western Region

Kakamega: The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has launched a road safety campaign in Western Kenya to promote safe use of roads. The campaign was initiated at the KURA regional offices in Kakamega by board chair, Engineer Charles Chiuri, with a focus on encouraging responsible driving behavior among motorists.

According to Kenya News Agency, Chiuri expressed concern that improvements in road infrastructure often lead to careless driving, resulting in road accidents. He emphasized that road accidents have significant impacts, affecting various aspects of people’s lives and imposing financial burdens.

KURA director representing the Matatu Welfare Association, Basil Ndwiga Nyaga, urged Kenyans to actively participate in ensuring road safety. He highlighted the broader implications of road accidents, noting that they not only lead to loss of lives but also pose economic challenges. The need for increased healthcare investment to support the injured further strains the economy.

Nyaga stressed the importance of collective responsibility in enhancing road safety, stating that the loss of lives is more than just statistical data. It impacts population dynamics and economic welfare, necessitating concerted efforts to prevent such losses in the future.
