Kisii Residents Benefit from Free Medical Camp

Nairobi: Residents of Kisii County have benefited from a free medical camp organised by Kisii University in conjunction with other health stakeholders in the region. The stakeholders included Kisii Eye Hospital, Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH), Equity Afya Medical Centre, Red Cross, and Dynapath Medical Laboratory. The medical camp, which saw the residents turn up in large numbers, involved free consultations, investigations, diagnoses, and treatment.

According to Kenya News Agency, Red Cross Official Joseph Onchangwi said the aim of the event was to provide free medical care such as eye check-ups, dental challenges, blood pressure, and any other medical condition the locals may be experiencing. ‘We also have drugs that we are issuing after the tests are done, and we can evacuate our patients to referral hospitals if the need arises,’ Onchangwi said.

A dentist at KTRH, Lorian Surai, lauded Kisii University for hosting the medical camp free of charge, saying that the event has provided a platform for them to reach out to anyone who is suffering from an illness. A community member, Zipporah Moti, thanked the medical personnel for the noble initiative, adding that she had been attended to and given drugs without any charges. ‘I am glad to say that my eyes have been checked, and I have also been given drugs for the same at no cost,’ said Moti. She encouraged the community members to seize such opportunities for health check-ups because the chances do not come often.
