Kipruto, Chepngeno Emerge Champions of Eldoret City Marathon 2025


Eldoret: Edwin Kipruto and Viola Chepngeno have claimed victory in the 6th Edition of the Eldoret City Marathon 2025, triumphing in both the men’s and women’s categories.



According to Kenya News Agency, Kipruto secured the title by completing the 42.195-kilometer full marathon in 2:11:21. Chepngeno finished the race with a time of 2:26:22. Geoffrey Chirchir and Kipchumba Timothy finished in second and third place in the men’s category with times of 2:11:56 and 2:12:08, respectively. In the women’s category, Jebichi Shaila and Koech Gladys claimed the second and third positions, clocking in at 2:26:54 and 2:29:55, respectively.



Kipruto expressed his appreciation for the race management, noting that participating in the Eldoret City Marathon was an opportunity to showcase his skills and potentially attract sponsorships for further exposure in other races. He credited his victory to his preparation and training, which built his confidence.



Jebichi, who improved her position from 30th in the 2022 edition to second in 2025, attributed her success to discipline and hard work. She acknowledged the challenging weather conditions but highlighted how her training gave her the confidence to perform well.



Moses Tanui, the Race Director, emphasized the marathon’s mission to not only nurture talent but also promote climate action. He advocated for environmental conservation by growing trees to ensure quality air for athletes, aiming to elevate the marathon to world-class status.
