High Commissioner of Ioba Province Honors Martyrs of 2014 and 2015 Uprisings

Ouagadougou: The High Commissioner affirms that the sacrifice of the martyrs of the uprising was not in vain. The High Commissioner of Ioba Province, Innocents Ouattara, affirmed that the sacrifice of the martyrs of October 31, 2014, and September 16, 2015, was not in vain during the ceremony held in their honor this Friday in Dano. The constituted bodies of Ioba observed a minute of silence at the High Commission in Dano in memory of the victims of the uprising of October 30 and 31, 2014, and the failed coup of September 16, 2015.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony honoring these martyrs was presided over by the province’s top official, Innocent Ouattara. As in other parts of Burkina Faso, a minute of silence was observed at 10:00 AM. Speaking immediately afterward, the High Commissioner recalled the context of this commemoration of Martyrs’ Day.

‘We remain convinced that their sacrifice was not in vain,’ he affirmed. ‘Thank you very much for this pious thought we have shared in memory of our martyrs,’ Mr. Ouattara continued.

He added that Burkina Faso is on a new path for its development. According to him, it is their sacrifice that we are honoring through the progressive and popular revolution. “Our sacrifice and our commitment should also be our support for the revolution that is currently underway.”

‘All our actions must be imbued with citizenship, civic responsibility, and discipline,’ the High Commissioner emphasized. He once again thanked all the constituted bodies for their strong mobilization on this very special day in the history of the ‘land of upright men.’
