Tamale: A total of 1,451 candidates in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) in the Tamale South Constituency have received educational support to boost their performance in the examinations.
According to Ghana News Agency, they each received mathematical sets, pencils, pens, exercise books, and assorted drinks. The gesture was spearheaded by the Haruna Iddrisu Fan Club, a group of loyal supporters of Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, Member of Parliament for the Constituency and Minister for Education. The Fan Club has consistently supported BECE candidates in the constituency as part of efforts to promote positive educational outcomes and improve the quality of basic education.
Mr. Musah Sadik, President of the Haruna Iddrisu Fan Club, who handed over the items to the candidates in the area on Tuesday, said the initiative reflected the Minister’s commitment to enhancing quality education, especially at the basic level. He said in addition to the learning materials, candidates who resided outside Tamale would be provided free transportation to and from examination centres to ensure full participation without the challenge of distance or transport cost.
He noted, “This gesture is also aimed at curbing examination malpractice. When all candidates have the necessary tools, no one would be tempted to ask for items from their colleagues under the guise of needing help.” He urged the candidates to focus on what they had learned from their teachers and avoid any form of malpractice during the examinations.
Mr. Sadik encouraged the candidates to see the support as motivation to excel and pursue academic paths that aligned with their future aspirations. Master Hussein Muftaw, a student of Anwar-Rahman Junior High School, expressed gratitude to the Haruna Iddrisu Fan Club and pledged to work hard to justify the support.
This year’s BECE is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, with a total of 603,326 candidates comprising 297,250 males and 306,078 females expected to participate in the examinations across the country.
