GTA Appeals for Renovation of Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum at Nkroful

Nkroful: Mr Henry Yeledour, the Western Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has appealed to stakeholders in the tourism sector to collaborate and give a face-lift to the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum situated at Nkroful, the birthplace of Ghana’s first President. According to him, the place required renovation to a world-class standard to help shore up the number of tourists that visited the site annually.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Yeledour expressed concern that the mausoleum is not developed to the desired status, considering the significant role Kwame Nkrumah played in the history of Ghana, Africa, and the world. He mentioned that discussions on the renovation are at the preliminary stage, with initial meetings held with the site’s board members to gather suggestions on the potential design of the edifice.

Mr Yeledour emphasized the importance of transforming the site into a pilgrimage destination, enhancing the experience for tourists interested in learning about Kwame Nkrumah’s origins. Suggestions have been made in collaboration with the governing board, and lengthy discussions have been conducted to advance the project.

The renovation plan aims to put the library, reception, washrooms, and other facilities into proper use, which have remained underutilized for years. Mr Yeledour stated that the GTA is actively seeking a professional with the technical expertise to provide a standard estimate for the renovation.

He highlighted the potential for increased revenue generation post-renovation, which could support further development. Mr Yeledour called on stakeholders to join efforts and mobilize funds necessary for the renovation project.
