GPL Title Race to Conclude in Dramatic Finale with Three Teams in Contention

Kumasi: The 2024-25 Ghana Premier League (GPL) will come to an end this upcoming weekend with Asante Kotoko, Nations FC, and Bibiani Gold Stars battling it out for the coveted title. Bibiani Gold Stars took a giant step toward clinching their first title after an impressive 3-2 away victory against Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park in Sunyani.

According to Ghana News Agency, Abdul Farouk Amoaful’s brace and a strike from Foster Agyei ensured all three points for Gold Stars, who currently have 60 points, level with Nations FC. Berekum Chelsea’s top marksman, Stephen Amankona, scored twice to take his goal tally to 15 for this season and is in pole position to win the Golden Boot award.

Nations FC, who are also fighting for their first league trophy, couldn’t complete their encounter with Basake Holy Stars as the match was interrupted late in the second half. With the Ghana Football Association yet to take a decision on the match, Nations FC are joint top with Gold Stars, but the latter has a better head-to-head advantage.

Asante Kotoko are currently two points behind the two league leaders after recording a 3-2 victory against Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Albert Amoah was the hero for the Porcupine Warriors, registering a sensational hat-trick to take his season tally to 12 goals.

Accra Hearts of Oak extended their five-match unbeaten run after beating already relegated Legon Cities 2-0 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. Kwabena Boateng and Micheal Awuah scored the goals for the Phobians, who are hoping for a top-four finish.

Karela United maintained their premier league status after thumping Young Apostles 3-0 at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium. This leaves the Accra Lions and Basake Holy Stars vying for the final survival position on the season’s final day.

With all games on the last day scheduled for Sunday, June 8, 2025, there would be plenty of drama and chills at the top of the table.
