Accra: The Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening diaspora participation in national development, particularly as Ghana begins implementing the National Diaspora Engagement Policy. The assurance was given by Mr. Kofi Okyere-Darko, Director of the Diaspora Affairs Office at the Office of the President, during a courtesy visit by a delegation from International Organisation for Migration Ghana, led by Madam Fatou Diallo Ndiaye, Chief of Mission.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Okyere-Darko emphasised the importance of inclusive engagement, stating that the Diaspora Affairs Office remains dedicated to bridging the gap between Ghana and its global diaspora. ‘At the Diaspora Affairs Office, we remain steadfast in our mission to serve as a bridge between the Government of Ghana and its global diaspora, facilitating inclusive opportunities for return, investment, skills transfer, and cultural reconnection,’ he stated.

Discussions focused on strategies to strengthen diaspora contributions, including labour mobility, the return and reintegration of Ghanaian migrants, and the link between migration and climate resilience. The meeting also explored greater collaboration on the ‘Black Star Experience’ platform and awareness campaigns targeting Ghana’s global diaspora.

A key initiative discussed was the Citizenship Drive for Second and Third Generation Ghanaians in the Diaspora, particularly across Europe and North America. Mr. Okyere-Darko reflected on policy development milestones, urging forward-looking strategies for impactful joint action. He commended IOM Ghana for their ongoing partnership, stating, ‘We look forward to translating our shared vision into measurable impact.’

Madam Ndiaye said the visit was to officially congratulate Mr. Okyere-Darko on his appointment and to reaffirm the strong collaboration between the two institutions.
