Mandera: Residents of Mandera County are celebrating after the official establishment of a new administrative unit, Khalalio Sub-County. With the creation of the new sub-county, residents will now be able to access government services more easily and conveniently, ending the need to travel long distances for essential services.
According to Kenya News Agency, leaders and members of the local community praised the government for elevating Khalalio to sub-county status, noting that the area will now open up for business and development opportunities across Mandera County. Previously, residents faced significant hardships accessing government services, but with the new administrative unit, services will be closer to the people, greatly improving their daily lives.
Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Bernard Mushira has officially assumed office as the first DCC of the newly established Khalalio Sub-County in Mandera East. Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Mushira urged residents to fully cooperate with the local administration to ensure smooth service delivery and development in the area. He assured the people of Khalalio of his full support and commitment to their welfare. ‘I am here to serve you with dedication. Together, we will build a stronger, more prosperous Khalalio,’ said DCC Mushira.
During the launch, Mandera County Commissioner Henry Ochako assured residents that all government services would soon be fully operational in Khalalio. ‘I urge all residents to come out in large numbers and make use of the services that will be brought closer to you,’ said Ochako. He also called on the community to cooperate with the newly posted Deputy County Commissioner to ensure smooth administration and governance in the sub-county.
Local leaders echoed the sentiments, urging residents to embrace unity and work together to ensure the success of Khalalio Sub-County. Residents expressed gratitude to the government, saying the move would significantly improve access to services and spur growth in the region.
Khalalio is the latest sub-county established in Mandera County, a development that is expected to enhance government efficiency and spur local economic growth. Mandera County is divided into six sub-counties: Mandera South, Mandera East, Mandera North, Mandera West, Banisa, and Lafey. In the coming days, the national government is expected to operationalize two more sub-counties within Mandera County as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and improve security coordination in the region.
