Gnagna: An Encouraging Health Assessment Despite Security Challenges

Gnagna: The Gnagna Provincial Consultation Framework (CCP) held its second ordinary session on Monday, October 27, 2025, in Bogande, under the chairmanship of the High Commissioner, Mr. Jean Baptiste Beogo. Despite a challenging security situation, the discussions revealed significant progress in the implementation of health activities in the districts of Bogande and Manni.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the statutory members of the CCP convened in the La Sagesse conference room to evaluate the health performance indicators for the second quarter of 2025. The results were deemed generally satisfactory compared to the same period in 2024, highlighting the resilience of health actors amidst insecurity and population displacements.

Among the achievements noted, participants praised the regularity of district consultation frameworks, the efficiency in entering and transmitting monthly activity reports (MARs), the availability of essential generic medicines (EGMs), and the high coverage of antenatal consultations (ANC4) along with assisted deliveries. Additionally, there was an improvement in the indicators of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI).

However, numerous challenges remain, such as insufficient human resources, low satisfaction rates for health product orders, lack of funding for activities, closure of some health facilities, and displacement of populations.

Health officials indicated that the security situation has significantly affected the Manni health district. The blockade by armed terrorist groups has hindered medical evacuations and caused substantial shortages of pharmaceutical products in several health facilities. In spite of these obstacles, healthcare personnel have shown dedication in maintaining operations and supporting the population.

High Commissioner Jean Baptiste Beogo expressed appreciation for the healthcare staff’s “sacrifice and sense of duty,” as well as the support from technical partners, superiors, and local authorities. He acknowledged the concerns regarding medical evacuations in the blockaded district of Manni and promised to communicate them to his superiors.

Participants called for the reopening of the Bogande-Manni road, restoration of electricity in Manni, Coalla, Liptougou, and Thion, and the security reconquest of these areas to enable the normal resumption of socio-economic and health activities.

Future plans include reopening closed Health and Social Promotion Centres (CSPS), continuing the construction of a medical complex at the Medical Centre with surgical unit (CMA) in Bogande, training community health workers (ASBC) and vaccination agents (AV) on task delegation, and establishing a regional health directorate and a Regional Hospital Centre (CHR) in connection with the operationalization of the regional capital.

Miscellaneous discussions addressed results in other sectors, such as the small ruminant vaccination campaign, the beginning of the sports season, and the province’s participation in the Regional Culture Week, which led to seven qualifications, including three in culinary arts and four in archery. Preparations for the provincial ceremony of academic excellence scheduled for October 30, 2025, in Bogande were also highlighted.

Lastly, participants welcomed the forthcoming opening of the Military Medical Center within the grounds of the former GUMI base, aimed at benefiting the population, the Defense and Security Forces, and the Communal Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDPC).

Despite ongoing challenges, the Gnagna CCP reaffirms its commitment to enhancing the resilience of the health system and ensuring improved access to care for all.
