Marrakech – Morocco has plenty of brilliant skills in the sector of artificial intelligence (AI), who contribute to strengthening the Kingdom’s positioning in this area, said Youssef Ghalem, AI Manager at the international digital consulting platform Infosysta.
Speaking to MAP on the sidelines of his participation in Gitex Africa 2024 (May 29-31), Mr. Ghalem noted an “increasing appropriation of AI in Morocco”, through several public and private initiatives aimed at further developing Moroccan skills in the sector.
The expert mentioned, in this regard, Morocco AI, an initiative led by AI experts in Morocco and abroad to promote the development of this technology in the Kingdom in all areas, stressing that this initiative “contributes in an extraordinary way to the promotion of AI among students and communities of developers who work on the latest technologies.”
Mr. Ghalem underlined that Morocco “has plenty of talent”, stressing that the Moroccan startup ecosystem is constantly evolving with financing and
investment players who seek to improve the start-up environment.
The expert, who welcomed the progress made by Morocco in this area, noted that “the Kingdom is a very fertile ground with a view to positioning itself as a leader in the Arab and African worlds.”
He recalled that the Kingdom has launched several financing programs which support several Moroccan startups with the aim of enabling them to position themselves on both the African and Arab levels.
The expert also pointed to the major advances in AI over the past few years. “In recent months, with the Open AI initiative, which has revolutionized artificial intelligence through ChatGPT, we can clearly see several advantages,” he added.
Held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Gitex Africa has featured over 1,500 exhibitors representing more than 130 countries.
Initiated by Kaoun International, the international subsidiary of Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), and supported by the Digital Development Agency under the authority of
the ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, the exhibition is the largest tech and start-up show in Africa.
