Accra: The Union of Ghanaian Associations in Germany (UGAG) has presented over 500 glasses, frames and lenses to the Eye Department of the Mary Lucy Hospital at Awoshie in Accra. This is to aid the hospital in the provision of quality eye care to patients.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mrs. Cecilia Biritwum, the Vice President of UGAG, and Mr. Patrick R. Okine, representative of UGAG in Ghana, made the presentation to the health facility. Mrs. Biritwum stated that the donation was part of the Union’s periodic presentations to various institutions in Ghana over the last five years. She emphasized that the gesture is aimed at supporting the hospital’s provision of eye care and treatments for affected patients and alleviating the plight of the vulnerable within the community and beyond, who could not afford frames and lenses.
Dr. Keren Gyasi, Optometrist at the Eye Clinic, Mary Lucy Hospital, who received the items, commended UGAG for the support and assured that the items would be used to help the less privileged. Dr. Vadis Burg Mensah, Optometrist in-charge, reiterated the gratitude of the hospital for the timeliness of the donation, stating that it would go a long way in alleviating the plight of patients within the community.
