Accra: The Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) has teamed up with the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to promote and develop Armwrestling within the service. This collaboration was solidified during a strategic meeting held in Accra, where GAF President Charles Osei Asibey met with Acting Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong.
According to Ghana News Agency, the meeting aimed to enhance the presence of Armwrestling among security services, focusing on inclusive participation for both civilians and uniformed personnel. The agreement between the organizations aims to identify and nurture talented firefighters with potential in Armwrestling. As part of the initiative, the Fire Service will establish an Armwrestling Club that will offer expert coaching and sports psychology guidance to develop athletes’ skills.
Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong expressed excitement about the partnership’s potential to foster Armwrestling development within the Fire Service. She highlighted that the sport would help personnel improve their strength, endurance, and agility, essential qualities for their duties. She also instructed the Human Resource Department and Sports Unit of the Fire Service to engage immediately with GAF to recruit fire officers for participation in the sport.
Reflecting on past achievements, Chief Fire Officer Sarpong emphasized the Fire Service’s history of producing national athletes and expressed confidence that their personnel would excel in Armwrestling, bringing pride to the Ghana National Fire Service and the nation. She concluded by stating that the partnership would lead to the production of world champions, showcasing the Fire Service as not only skilled in firefighting but also as champions in sports.
GAF President Charles Osei Asibey described the partnership as a significant step towards promoting Armwrestling in Ghana. He expressed confidence that the Fire Armwrestling Club would produce talented athletes who would excel nationally and internationally. In recognition of her support for sports development, Acting Chief Fire Officer Ntow Sarpong was named a Patron of the Federation and awarded commemorative medals.
The visit marked a crucial step in strengthening collaboration between the Ghana Armwrestling Federation and national security institutions, using Armwrestling as a platform for unity, empowerment, and national cohesion. Attendees at the meeting included Vice President Dr. Kofi Addo-Agyekum, Secretary General Jesse Agyepong, Board Members Edwin Amankwah, Husseini Akuetteh Addy, Godfrey Amarteifio, and media consultant Kenneth Odeng Adade.
