Friendship and working visit of German Federal Chancellor HE Mr. Olaf Scholz

The Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, HE Mr. Olaf Scholz, arrived Sunday evening May 22, 2022 in Niamey for a visit of friendship and work, was welcomed with all the honors (performance of the national anthems of the two countries, review troops, red carpet), Monday afternoon, May 23, 2022, at the Palace of the Presidency, by the President of the Republic, Head of State, HE Mohamed Bazoum.

During this official welcome, the German Chancellor was greeted by Nigerien officials, in particular the Acting Prime Minister, Mr. Massoudou Hassoumi, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, members of the Government and Heads of Defense and Security Forces.

Shortly after, President Mohamed Bazoum and the German Chancellor had a face-to-face meeting. The two leaders then hosted a press conference before going to the Radisson Blu Hotel for a working lunch extended to members of the two delegations.

During this press conference, President Mohamed Bazoum warmly thanked the German Chancellor for this visit to Niger, which constitutes “the testimony of the German Government’s recognition of the efforts undertaken by the Government and the people of Niger, to promote democracy in our country. »

“It is also proof that you want to encourage us, and you recognize the efforts we are making, therefore, to ensure the security of our people, the integrity of our territory despite the objective difficulties that we may face. in this sub-regional context where security has particularly deteriorated,” said the Head of State.

The President of the Republic welcomed the cooperation between Niger and Germany, “a solid cooperation, substantial in its content and particularly profitable in what it has been achieving for 60 years.”

“I would like you, once again, to thank Chancellor Olaf Scholz for this visit and to congratulate the Federal Republic of Germany for the efforts it is making in supporting Niger in the face of all the challenges that are on today’s agenda”, affirmed the Head of State.
