Uasin Gishu: Four sisters aged between 10 and 20 years from Uasin Gishu County have been rescued from their father who has been molesting them sexually for years, and even facilitating their abortions.
According to Kenya News Agency, the girls who lived with their mother in Kitale, Tranzoia County would travel with their dad, an ex-security guard, to Eldoret town one after the other where he would sexually molest them. ‘What he would do is request his wife to give out one of the girls during weekends or holidays to help him in household chores and they would travel to Eldoret with them. Then he would take advantage of them,’ said one of the rescuers.
The rescuers, a Children Rescue Group, Affecto Foundation that helps in educating needy learners, said from the revelation from the girls, their father had threatened to kill them, their mother, and commit suicide should they open up. According to the Foundation’s CEO Ndung’u Nyoro, this ran for years until two weeks ago when the eldest, a university student, busted the dad sexually molesting their youngest sister. She opened up with their mother who reached out to authorities.
Nyoro said they raised the matter with the Ministry of Gender, prompting the arrest of the father two weeks ago. The girls were taken to one of their sister’s places in Weitethie, Juja Sub County where the Gender Cabinet Secretary, Hannah Cheptumo, visited them yesterday.
Nyoro said from what the girls revealed, the man had made the sexual molestation look normal, adding that he started engaging with them sexually when some were eight years old. He said they revealed that two of the girls had an abortion facilitated by their dad while the eldest had two. He said the girls have been taken through counseling and it has helped since they are able to talk about the incident.
The Gender CS said the children will be taken to a safe place as investigations commence. She said the Ministry will also ensure that the children are taken to school and that all their requirements will be catered for to ensure a smooth study. ‘This is a sad incident where a father sexually molests his daughters multiple times to an extent of procuring abortions. This should not happen in our society,’ Cheptumo said.
The CS said the government will ensure that justice is served and the perpetrator is dealt with according to the law. He warned other sex pests that their days are numbered and soon, the long arm of the law will catch up with them.
