Former Lawmaker Dr Prempeh Pledges to Complete Stalled Projects in Tano North

Duayaw-Nkwanta: Dr Freda Prempeh, the former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tano North constituency in the Ahafo Region, has pledged to ensure the completion of all stalled projects in the constituency. ‘Works on the construction of most of the physical infrastructure projects, spread across the local communities are not government funded. These are self-initiated projects I personally started and I am doing my best to complete and handover the facilities to the beneficiary communities,’ she stated.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr Prempeh gave the assurance in an interview at Duayaw-Nkwanta, the constituency capital, pledging to do more to alleviate the plight of the constituents. The former lawmaker said construction works on those projects, including drilling of mechanized boreholes and Community-based Planning Service (CHPS) Compounds, were in various stages of completion.

Others, Dr Prempeh mentioned, included construction of durbar grounds, student hostels, basic school buildings, and artificial pitches, as well as extension of electricity to some underserved communities. She said: ‘Politics is purposely for development, and I will not allow those projects to become white elephants, and left under the mercy of the weather because the people actually need them.’

Some of these projects are also those she initiated with some NGOs and the private sector. ‘In fact, I am in touch with them and construction work will resume very soon,’ Dr Prempeh assured. The former outspoken legislator, also the founder of the Ultimate Women Foundation (UWF), a women-inclined NGO, said: ‘my foundation is working seriously and to empower many vulnerable women in the constituency too.’

Dr Prempeh explained that the UWF sought to encourage and motivate indigenous and vulnerable women and girls to know their worth and to empower and well position them to contribute to the development of their communities and the larger society.
