Accra: The Tema Regional Office of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has expressed appreciation to stakeholders for keeping the company informed on various electricity distribution issues in the different operational areas of the region. The ECG Tema Region operates nine districts, namely Tema South, Tema North, Nungua, Ashaiman, Afienya, Juapong, Krobo, Ada, and Prampram.
According to Ghana News Agency, Ms. Sakyiwaa Mensah, the Public Relations Officer of the ECG Tema Region, stated in an interview that the company had created WhatsApp group chats for all the districts. These groups include assembly members, traditional leaders, and other community leaders who share information on outages in their various communities. Ms. Mensah noted that these stakeholder platforms had positively impacted the work of the ECG. The platforms offer valuable support by enabling community members to share images of broken, tilted, or weak poles, inform about sagging lines, and provide locations for prompt response.
She emphasized that some of these issues are located in rural areas and bushes, and stakeholders’ reports help address them quickly. Ms. Mensah also highlighted the importance of public participation in protecting the company’s installations, given that many of its items are in public spaces. The information shared through WhatsApp groups ensures that stakeholders and community members are engaged and assist in maintaining the network.
The PRO pointed out instances where customers might experience power outages due to faults within small sections of the distribution system. In such cases, stakeholder support and information sharing are crucial for resolving problems swiftly. Ms. Mensah commended the stakeholders for their continuous support, urging them to keep supporting ECG, hold it accountable, and inform staff of significant electricity distribution issues in their localities.
