Dambai Drivers Implement 15% Fare Reduction, Urge Broader Adoption

Dambai: In a bid to ease the burden on commuters, Dambai drivers in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region have complied with reducing fares by 15 per cent.

According to Ghana News Agency, this move follows a joint publication by the Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU) and Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), which saw a 15% reduction in transport fares effective May 24, 2025. Dambai to Hohoe fares have been reduced from GHC 60 to GHC 50, while Dambai to Kpando fares have also been reduced from GHC 80 to GHC 70. However, a follow-up at the Vision Bus station revealed that fares from Dambai to Accra remained unchanged at GHC 135.

Travelers are appealing to authorities to engage the Vision Bus Union to reduce fares, while some drivers are also urging other transport operators to adopt a similar fare reduction, promoting a unified approach. “We are calling on other transport operators to follow suit and reduce their fares to ease the burden on commuters,” said some drivers who spoke to the GNA.

Many passengers have welcomed the reduction, saying it will help alleviate transportation associated with high costs. Madam Faustina Ama Namoah and others believe the fare cut would lead to increased patronage of commercial vehicles, as more people may opt for public transport due to the reduced costs. “We are happy about the fare reduction, it will go a long way to help us, especially those of us who commute daily.”
