Accra: An Accra Circuit Court has remanded Theophilus Kpakpo Thompson, the man accused of assaulting JoyNews journalist Latif Iddrisu, into police custody. The suspect, arrested on June 7, 2025, was arraigned on June 9, 2025.

According to Ghana News Agency, Thompson was charged with assault, contrary to Section 84 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and threat of death, contrary to Section 75 of the same Act. He pleaded not guilty to both charges and is scheduled to reappear before the court on June 18, 2025.

A statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs at the Accra Regional Police Command, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensure journalists work without fear or intimidation.
