Accra: Madam Joyce Eku, Executive Director of Childfocus Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), announced the organisation’s commitment to supporting the development of school children. The NGO is dedicated to providing development assistance and comprehensive educational support, especially to children from vulnerable backgrounds.
According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Eku addressed a stakeholder meeting with selected teacher representatives to discuss the ‘Childfocus Clubs’ project. This initiative aims to develop the unique abilities of school children in seven schools across the Shai-Osudoku and Ningo Prampram Districts. The clubs, comprising 60 members each, are established in Dodowa Presby Basic B, Odumse D/A Basic School, Fiankonya D/A, Mobole D/A, Afienya Basic A D/A, Afienya Basic B D/A, and Afienya Basic C D/A.
Madam Eku emphasized the importance of nurturing children in moral values, instilling an understanding of education’s importance, and cultivating the right mindset. Childfocus Ghana maintains a partnership with the Districts Ghana Education Service (GES) to ensure transparency in their operations. Each 60-member club will be overseen by a designated lead teacher, with the NGO conducting regular visits to monitor progress and ensure all stakeholders remain aligned with the shared objective.
With over 13 years of experience, Childfocus Ghana believes in the transformative power of education combined with guidance and mentorship. The organisation identifies out-of-school children, supports their return to school, and engages caregivers through monthly counseling sessions to emphasize education’s value.
Ms. Elizabeth Naki Yeboah, Project Assistant at Childfocus Ghana, stated that the clubs aim to help children discover their untapped potential and develop essential skills like communication, leadership, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Activities include debates, cultural displays, drama, and team games, all designed to build core competencies without interfering with academic activities.
To support teacher collaboration, motivation, key performance indicators, and monitoring systems have been established. Although this is the first time implementing the project, these structures are expected to encourage teacher engagement.
Mr. Noble Amenyawu, Deputy GES Director of Ningo-Prampram District, expressed the districts’ full support for the organisation’s activities, which align with their six core competencies. He highlighted the importance of maximizing these activities’ impact to shape confident, intelligent Ghanaian children capable of solving personal and community challenges. The districts have already benefited from various projects, including a library and financial support, which enhance teachers’ ability to educate effectively.
