Chiefs of Nkwanta North Seek Support from Oti Regional Minister

Nkwanta: The chiefs of Nkwanta North District, led by their paramount chief, Ubor (Dr.) Tassan Nanja Konja VI, have paid a courtesy call on the Oti Regional Minister, Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong. The purpose of the visit was to introduce themselves, pay homage, and explore potential areas of collaboration.

According to Ghana News Agency, Ubor Konja VI, on behalf of the chiefs and elders, expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for his transformational and developmental projects. He appealed to the government to complete the Agenda 111 Hospital project, initiated by the previous government, which aims to provide better healthcare for pregnant women and all sick people nationwide.

The chief highlighted several infrastructure challenges in the district, including the Nkwanta-Damanko stretch, which is in poor condition, causing health hazards and disrupting transportation. He mentioned that the Community Senior High School’s E-block project at Damanko remains unfinished and appealed for its completion to improve access to education.

In terms of electricity, Ubor Konja VI stated that the district faces low voltage issues, affecting businesses and daily life, and reminded the government of its promise to establish a sub-station. He also noted that many communities, including Sibi and Kpassa township, lacked access to potable water, making it difficult for residents to access this essential resource.

The chief appealed for the establishment of a Nursing Training College to provide tertiary education opportunities for young people. Despite the presence of different tribes in the district, including Konkombas, Basares, Kotokolis, Ewes, Mossi, and Kabres, the people live in peace and harmony.

Ubor Konja VI also appealed for support for the district police command, including a vehicle to enable them to discharge their duties effectively. The Regional Minister acknowledged the challenge of accessing clean water in Kpassa and assured the chiefs that plans were underway to revamp the dormant water treatment project in the area. He promised to liaise with the Ministries of Health and Education to ensure a successful outcome for the establishment of a Nursing Training College in Kpassa.

The meeting was attended by a delegation of chiefs and elders, including representatives from the Konkomba Youth Association.
