Bright Atakpa Triumphs in Prodigy Examination Season Three

Tema: Master Bright Atakpa, a form two pupil from St. Peter R/C Basic School, emerged victorious in the Prodigy Examination season three, securing a score of 91.5 points. He was awarded a trophy and GHS1,000. Miss Annabella Addo from Manhean Methodist School took second place with 87.5 points, and Miss Graham Ewuru Esi, also from St. Peter R/C Basic School, secured third place with 82 points.

According to Ghana News Agency, the competition required participants to answer questions based on the Ghana Education Service’s new standard curriculum, which covers mathematics, English language, science, critical thinking, and practical reasoning. Mr. Richard Kwabena Nsarkoh, Founder and Executive Director of Chalk Talk Foundation Africa, explained that the Prodigy Examination is an initiative designed to promote education in the Tema East Constituency and prepare students for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Mr. Nsarkoh highlighted that 13 schools from the Tema East Constituency took part in the examination, with 53 students progressing through the initial stages. Ultimately, the top 10 finalists competed in the final round. He emphasized that the examination aims to identify children with the potential to become innovators, effective communicators, and critical thinkers. He encouraged support from philanthropists, individuals, and educators to expand the contest across the Tema Metropolis and beyond.

Mrs. Lola Asiseh Ashitey, General Manager for Sewage System Ghana Limited and sponsor of the Prodigy Examination, affirmed that the program helps prepare BECE candidates, with participants showing increased interest in learning and competing. She mentioned that winners have been receiving educational incentives for the past three years. The forthcoming edition will introduce an interactive session for the audience, who are also pupils, allowing them to answer questions and earn rewards to motivate broader participation.

Mr. Micheal Mensah Annang, Headteacher of Manhean Methodist Basic School, emphasized that the examination serves as an effective mental exercise for learners, enhancing their academic performance. Similarly, Madam Bernice Sefakor Doviah, School Improvement Support Officer for Ashamang Circuit – Tema New Town, praised the initiative for encouraging critical thinking among pupils. She advocated for the expansion of the program to other constituencies to further prepare students for the BECE.

All participating schools received a certificate of participation, and the 10 finalists were awarded stationery.
