Ashanti Regional Peace Council Urges Lawful Conduct Amid National Challenges

Kumasi: As the nation enters the sixth month under the new administration, the Ashanti Regional Peace Council (ARPC) has issued a strong appeal to citizens and stakeholders to uphold law and order in promoting and preserving peace across the region and the country at large.

According to Ghana News Agency, in a press statement issued by the Regional Secretariat and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi, the ARPC extended commendations to all stakeholders who have worked tirelessly to sustain peace in the Ashanti Region, describing their contributions as critical to national stability. The Council emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in protecting Ghana’s democratic credentials and social harmony, especially at a time when the country is facing complex internal and external security threats.

The statement pointed out that Ghana is already challenged with sub-regional spillover threats to terrorism and violent extremism, small arms proliferation even in senior high schools, youth involvement in drugs, and increasing socio-economic inequality. Citing historical trends and recent early warning signals, the Council urged authorities and citizens alike to recommit to upholding the rule of law and respecting individual rights.

The ARPC specifically referenced recent developments surrounding the reduction of transportation fares, calling on all involved to abide by the laws and ensure that enforcement processes are carried out peacefully. The statement highlighted the importance of trust in governance institutions and among citizens as a foundation for peace and national progress.

In conclusion, the ARPC encouraged Ghanaians to be law-abiding, patient, empathetic, and to trust the various governing institutions to ensure sustainable peace.
