Archbishop Duncan-Williams Advocates for God’s Role in National Governance

Accra: Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, Chair of the National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches (NACCC), has emphasized the importance of incorporating the God-factor in the governance of a nation. He expressed concern over the exclusion of God’s role in national leadership and decision-making, highlighting the need for moral and spiritual guidance in how authorities exercise power.

According to Ghana News Agency, Archbishop Duncan-Williams made these remarks during a courtesy visit by the planning committee of the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving at his residence. The visit was part of consultations for the upcoming event, aimed at seeking his blessings and formally inviting him. The committee also extended their outreach to Rev Dr. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, the General Superintendent of Assemblies of God – Ghana, in Accra.

The National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving seeks to unite Christians, Muslims, and other religious groups under the theme: ‘Reflect, Reset, and Renew for National Prosperity.’ The event will feature a Christian segment at the State House and Muslim prayers at the National Mosque. Archbishop Duncan-Williams noted that this marks the first time people from different faiths will come together to acknowledge God’s role in the nation’s life, which he described as a step toward spiritual consciousness and unity.

He emphasized that prayer reflects humanity’s dependence on the Creator, and during turbulent times, collective reflection and unity are essential. He commended the President and the committee for their initiative and offered prayers for their success.

Rev Dr. Stephen Yenusom Wengam highlighted the importance of prayer, especially during election periods, attributing the nation’s stability and democratic growth to spiritual support. He stressed the need to prioritize prayer over speeches at such events, ensuring sermons are concise and focused.

Mr. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Chair of the Committee, announced that the event will be celebrated across all regions and districts in Ghana. He praised Ghana’s democratic stability and cautioned attendees against wearing political party attire, suggesting celebratory or national colors instead.
