Accra: Professor Smile Gavua Dzisi, Acting Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service in Charge of Management Services, emphasized the critical role of discipline and respect in education during the 60th National Anniversary Launch of Anfoega Senior High School. She noted that while creativity and innovation are encouraged, they must align with a strong moral foundation.
According to Ghana News Agency, the celebration, themed ‘Celebrating 60 Years: The Role of Stakeholders in Providing Quality Education for the 21st Century,’ highlighted several projects. These include the enhancement of the school entrance with a fence-wall, the development of a sports complex, and the construction of a modern Home Economics and ICT Block, collectively estimated at GH4,000,000.
The school, originally established in 1965 as Anfoega Training College, became a secondary school in 1970. Prof Smile, representing Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu, stressed the importance of balancing access to education with responsibility, especially in light of recent concerns about indiscipline in senior high schools.
The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service, is implementing initiatives such as guidance and counseling units and moral education to address these issues. Prof Smile called for a collaborative effort from all stakeholders to ensure a quality education system that prepares students for life beyond exams.
She urged stakeholders to renew their commitment to education as both a right and a responsibility, emphasizing the school’s history of dedication and distinction. The alumni were commended for their contributions, and stakeholders were encouraged to support the school’s resources to enhance academic success.
Togbe Gidi Yiboe V, Board Chairman of Anfoesec, praised the school’s academic and cultural performance and called for stakeholder support to improve the school’s resources and reputation. He stressed the importance of donations to help the school compete with others in the region and fulfill its educational role.
