All Set for 2025 BECE as Over 600,000 Candidates Prepare for Exams – GES

Accra: Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), announced that preparations are complete for the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) scheduled to take place across the country. The examinations, organized in collaboration with the West African Examination Council (WEAC), are set to run from June 11 to June 18, 2025.

According to Ghana News Agency, a total of 603,328 students are expected to participate in the exams, with 306,078 females and 297,250 males registered. Prof. Davis confirmed that all necessary logistics, including timetables and materials, have been distributed to schools and regional education offices. The examination schedule will see two subjects being tested daily, one at 9:00 AM and another at 1:00 PM.

Candidates will be examined in 11 subjects, with each student taking an average of nine subjects. The core courses include English Language, Mathematics, Science, Ghanaian Language, Social Studies, Religious and Moral Education, Creative Art and Design, and Career Technology. Private candidates are expected to sit for the exams in locations such as Tema, Gambaga, and the regional capitals.

Supervision of the exams will be a joint effort between GES and WAEC, with assistance from law enforcement agencies like the police to maintain the exams’ integrity. Prof. Davis emphasized the importance of stakeholder cooperation in minimizing examination malpractice and warned invigilators and supervisors against any actions that could compromise the examinations.

He urged candidates to refrain from dishonest practices and to rely on their preparations. Prof. Davis also expressed appreciation to head teachers, teachers, and parents for their role in preparing students for the exams, urging the candidates to strive for success through honest efforts.
