Ada Ohuewem Clan Enstools New Asafoatsengua

Ada: The Ohuewem Clan in the Ada Traditional Area has enstooled a new Asafoatsengua, the highest traditional war leader of the clan, in a colourful ceremony. Mr. Doetse Tetteh-Yumu, a businessperson, was installed under the stool name Asafoatsengua Sackey Ketehene VI and formally introduced to the Ada Traditional Council over the weekend. The ceremony, which brought together traditional leaders, elders, youth, and chiefs from neighbouring communities, was led by elders of the traditional council.

According to Ghana News Agency, as part of the ceremony, the newly installed Asafoatsengua was carried shoulder-high through the town amid singing, drumming, and dancing by residents and well-wishers who came to support him. Traditional rites were performed by the stool father, Setsengua Emmanuel Tetteh-Yumu, who invoked the blessings of the ancestors, while libation was poured to welcome the new overlord into office.

Speaking to the media, he thanked the people of Ohuewem for the honour done to him and pledged to lead with humility and dedication. ‘I am honoured to lead this great clan. My door will always be open, and together, we will work to preserve our traditions while seeking development for our people. When asked about his plans for the clan, Asafoatsengua Sackey Ketehene VI responded briefly, ‘Your secret is your power.’

Nene Tetteh Asigbe III, Chief of Asigbekorpe and part of the Kingmakers, encouraged the youth to remain united and support the leadership of the clan, noting that although some challenges came up along the way, the successful installation shows that unity has prevailed. The Chief of Caesarkope, Nene Mershack Tetteh Caesar III, said that after their previous war leader died, the position had remained vacant for some time, and many factors contributed to the selection of Asafoatsengua Sackey Ketehene VI.

The youth who honoured the event also added their voice, touching on the importance of traditional leadership and expressing hope for greater community development under the new Asafoatsengua.
