Accra High Court Mandates Disclosures in Adu-Boahene Case Before Plea Bargaining Discussions

Accra: An Accra High Court has mandated all parties involved in the case of Mr. Kwabena Adu Boahene, a former Director at the National Signals Bureau, to file full disclosures prior to engaging in plea bargaining discussions. Justice John Nyadu Nyante, presiding over the case, has instructed that these disclosures be filed by the State and served on the defense by Monday, June 2, 2025.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, the Deputy Attorney General, initially requested additional time to gather necessary documents. However, the court denied this request, resulting in the directive for immediate action. Dr. Srem-Sai cited the unavailability of a key investigator due to illness as the cause of the delay but assured the court that the investigator would be available by Friday, May 30, 2025.

The directive followed a private sidebar meeting involving Justice Nyante, Dr. Srem-Sai, and defense lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea, which was requested by the Deputy Attorney General. Although the judge did not publicly disclose the reasoning behind the directive, the decision underscores the court’s intent to proceed with transparency.

Adu-Boahene, previously remanded into EOCO custody, will maintain his existing bail condition of GH?80 million, with two sureties, one of which must be justified. The accused, along with his wife and two others, faces 11 charges, including stealing, money laundering of GHS49.1 million in state funds, willfully causing financial loss to the State, conspiracy, collaboration to commit crime, and abuse of public office. They have all pleaded not guilty to these charges.

The other accused individuals, including Mildred Donkor, a former banker, and a company, Advantage Solutions Limited, are also to remain on their existing bail terms. The court adjourned the case to June 11, 2025, for a case management conference.
