Gushegu: A total of 120 young businesswomen in the Gushegu Municipality have undergone training to equip them with relevant digital tools to leverage online platforms for marketing and finance. The three-week-long training, which ended at Gushegu in the Northern Region, aimed to promote rural economic empowerment, strengthen livelihoods through market access, and build the capacity of Community Information Centres (CIC).
According to Ghana News Agency, the topics covered in the training included an introduction to digital devices, the internet and mobile applications, social media usage for business, digital content creation and distribution, digital financial management, mobile money integration in business, digital safety and security, entrepreneurship, and gender empowerment. The program was organized by Assistance Hub in partnership with the Kofi Annan ICT Centre, UNESCO, University of Ghana Business School, and Hapaspace, a digital innovation hub in Kumasi.
Asana Abdulai, Project Partnership Lead of Assistance Hub, highlighted that the initiative aimed to harness digital technology and the capacity of CICs to transform rural livelihoods. It also sought to tackle barriers related to market access, connectivity, technology usage, and skills development. She noted that the training would increase confidence among young women, improve well-being, resilience, and provide financial advantages through skills development and youth employability. Abdulai also mentioned plans to introduce other training models targeting unemployed young mothers.
Humu-Hani Adam, Assistance Hub Team Lead, emphasized that the training intended to expose the businesses of the beneficiaries to a global audience for increased patronage. Mr. Adam Abdul Hafiz, Gushegu Municipal Chief Executive, encouraged the participants to utilize their newly acquired skills to enhance their operations and advised them to remain loyal, honest, innovative, and truthful to their customers.
Abdulai Soale, Public Relations Officer of the Paramount Chief of Gushegu, assured the organizers of the Gushe-Naa’s support in establishing office accommodation in the area. Participants of the training showcased some of their business items, including perfumes, pastries, men’s and women’s dresses, switchboards, and various local dishes and drinks, among others.
