Addis Ababa: The first car assembly plant with cost of 250 million Birr inaugurated in Jigjiga, Somali Region of Ethiopia today.

The car assembly factory has the capacity to assemble up to 10 cars per day, it was indicated.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Somali State Chief Administrator Mustafe Mohamed said the private sector’s contribution to the economy of the region is increasing from year to year.

This is one among 300 industries (small, medium and large) that are creating jobs in the region in the last 6 years, he elaborated.

Mustefe elaborated that investment activities that benefit the entire country will be strengthened by using the region’s natural resources and suitable trade routes.

He noted that such investment projects not only save foreign currency expenses, but also create employment opportunities for citizens, reiterating the state government will continue to support the private sector.

The owner of the factory, Abdinur Hussain said that the factory has created more than 100 jobs.

He announced plan to create more production capacity and wide employment opportunities by carrying out further expansion works.
