Seven New Schools Approved in Marakwet West

Marakwet west: The Ministry of Education has formally granted registration status to a new cohort of pre-primary and primary institutions within Marakwet West Sub County, following the successful completion of all statutory and quality assurance requirements.

According to Kenya News Agency, the registration was effected after a high-level consultation between Marakwet West Member of Parliament Timothy Kipchumba and the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Amb. Julius Kibet Bitok. The institutions now legally recognised are located in various parts of the Sub County. They include Amani Torokwo, Kapsawach, and Sugut Primary Schools; Chesupko Educational Centre, AIC Lifespring Mission School; Lalen Talent Academy; and Christ the Good Shepherd Mission School.

Kipchumba confirmed that all institutions met the operational, infrastructural, and instructional thresholds required under the Basic Education Act, enabling them to be formally integrated into the national education system. ‘This marks a significant milestone in our efforts to strengthen the education infrastructure within Marakwet West. The registration process adhered strictly to the established legal frameworks and quality assurance guidelines administered by the Ministry of Education,’ Kipchumba stated.

He further said that the formal registration of these institutions allows them to operate as compliant entities eligible for government oversight, access to public resources, teacher deployment, and inclusion in future national planning and budgeting processes. ‘This initial phase of registration represents a deliberate move to enhance equitable access to early and primary education across underserved and geographically remote areas within the constituency. We are currently processing a second batch of applications, and we expect additional institutions to be approved soon,’ he added.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the development, highlighting the critical role formal registration plays in ensuring quality standards, improving child safety, and enabling structured curriculum delivery in line with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
