Tema: Over 4,233 candidates from 133 Basic Schools in Tema West are participating in the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which began on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. The cohort includes 2,044 boys and 2,189 girls, with three of the girls pregnant and one lactating.
According to Ghana News Agency, the examination commenced with ‘Social Studies 2’ across 13 centres with the oversight of 13 supervisors, 15 assistant supervisors, and 148 invigilators. Mr. Ludwig Teye Totimeh, the Tema West Municipal Chief Executive, along with Mr. James Enu, Member of Parliament for Tema West, and Mr. Isaac MacCarthy-Mensah, the Education Director, visited the Tema Secondary School and Trinity Lutheran School centres to motivate the candidates.
Mr. Totimeh shared that the examination began smoothly in the municipality. However, he intervened in a situation where a candidate was initially barred from taking the exam due to school fee arrears. The candidate was eventually allowed to participate, and arrangements were made to address the financial issue.
Mr. Isaac MacCarthy-Mensah highlighted that candidates had been thoroughly prepared and briefed on examination rules. He noted that invigilators and supervisors were carefully selected through interviews and trained through workshops. Special accommodations were made for 10 candidates with special needs, including one with an autism spectrum disorder, to ensure they have adequate time to complete the exams.
Mr. James Enu, the MP for Tema West, expressed his best wishes to the candidates and anticipated improved results this year. He urged parents and guardians to ensure that candidates are properly nourished to support their cognitive function during the exams.
The Ghana News Agency reported that each examination centre was equipped with nurses and police officers to handle any unexpected situations.
