Amenfi Central NCCE Celebrates World Environment Day with Students

Wassa Amenfi Central: The Wassa Amenfi Central District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised an educational session on plastic waste management for students from three selected schools in the district. The session, held on the theme: ‘Ending Plastic Pollution – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’, was part of this year’s World Environment Day celebration.

According to Ghana News Agency, the participating schools were St. Luke Academy, Achichre D/A, and Arabic School. They engaged in activities such as reciting poems and performing drama to highlight the harmful effects of plastic pollution on the environment. Additionally, the students showcased innovative items recycled from plastic waste, including skipping ropes and wall mounts.

Mr. Anthony Kelvin Amoo, the Wassa Amenfi Central NCCE Director, addressed the students during the event, emphasizing that plastic pollution is a significant environmental challenge requiring collective action from all stakeholders. He stated, “We see the students as stakeholders in this issue that is why we have brought them together to let them know that the survival of our environment depends on the actions we take.”

Mr. Amoo also encouraged the students to become ambassadors for a clean environment in their communities and to ensure that people do not dump refuse indiscriminately. At the conclusion of the event, certificates of participation were awarded to the schools in recognition of their innovative efforts in managing plastic waste.
