TVET Seen as Crucial Driver for Ghana’s Economic Transformation, Says Regional Director

Kumasi: Mr. Richard Addo Gyamfi, the Ashanti Regional Director of the Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service, has emphasized the pivotal role of TVET in transforming Ghana’s economy. He highlighted that TVET equips individuals with essential skills necessary for job creation and employment promotion, which subsequently aids in reducing the country’s unemployment rate.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Gyamfi, in an interview in Kumasi, announced the readiness of the Ashanti Regional Ghana TVET Service to admit students following the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). He revealed that the regional TVET Service is prepared to accommodate over 6,000 students across its 38 schools this year.

Mr. Gyamfi noted that nearly 20 of the 38 TVET schools spread across 27 districts in the region are equipped with boarding facilities to house students wishing to reside on campus. Despite facing certain challenges, these schools are furnished with qualified teachers, adequate facilities, and necessary materials to effectively train incoming students.

Emphasizing the critical role of TVET in the socio-economic development of Ghana, Mr. Gyamfi urged the government to allocate resources towards TVET education. He encouraged parents and guardians to support their children in pursuing a career in TVET, rather than imposing their personal career preferences.

He stressed, “We are in an era of skills, that is the most important thing the market needs. Parents and guardians, encourage your wards to take up and pursue TVET as a career.”

The Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service, operating under the Ministry of Education, is tasked with managing, overseeing, and implementing national policies and programs related to pre-tertiary TVET.
