28th ACAO GA Session: Morocco’s Transport Minister Holds Several Bilateral Meetings


Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohammed Abdeljalil, held bilateral meetings, on Wednesday in Rabat, with the President of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and his counterparts from Singapore and Saudi Arabia, on the sidelines of the 28th session of the General Assembly of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization (ACAO).

The meeting with the President of the ICAO Council, Salvatore Sciacchitano, provided an opportunity to discuss areas to promote air transport in Africa, and in Morocco in particular, as well as to examine the impact of air transport liberalization on the economic and social development of States, the Ministry of Transport and Logistics said in a press release, adding that the two parties also discussed Morocco’s efforts to decarbonize air transport by 2050.

At the end of this meeting, the same source added, the two parties agreed to work together to promote cooperation through the organization of meetings and seminars with a view to further developing skills, particular
ly in the field of aviation safety and security.

Abdeljalil also held a meeting with the Senior Minister of State for Transport of Singapore, Amy Khor, to explore opportunities for strengthening technical cooperation in developing skills and capabilities in the fields of civil aviation.

The two Ministers discussed the possibility of developing a bilateral cooperation framework to encourage the exchange of experience in the field of sustainable mobility and land transport.

The Moroccan Minister also held a meeting with the Minister of Transport and Logistic Services of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Saleh Al-Jasser, the press release said, stating that the meeting began with both parties praising the excellence of cooperation relations between Morocco and Saudi Arabia and expressed their willingness to further promote these ties, notably in the transport and logistics sectors.

The two officials discussed opportunities for strengthening technical cooperation in the field of transport, and examined ways of dev
eloping a framework for cooperation in civil aviation and air transport.

On this occasion, Abdeljalil expressed Morocco’s willingness to benefit from Saudi expertise in the field of transport and the digitization of services, particularly in the context of the organization of the 2030 World Cup.

For his part, the Saudi minister extended an invitation to his Moroccan peer to take part in ACAO’s Middle East Regional Aviation Safety Group, the press release added.
