2025 Presidential Race: Ndim Jacob Ngong Faces Threats Amid Campaign Announcement

Yaounde: In a surprising turn of events, Ndim Jacob Ngong, a 35-year-old presidential hopeful, publicly disclosed threats to his life during an April 12 press conference dedicated to announcing his candidacy against the 92-year-old incumbent, Paul Biya, in the upcoming elections.

According to Cameroon News Agency, Ndim Jacob detailed events over the past four months that have endangered his life, stating that threats have emerged as he embarks on a tour to connect with potential supporters for his independent candidacy, in compliance with current laws. He recounted that a press conference initially scheduled for December 2024 was canceled, and a subsequent event in March was reduced to an off-camera discussion due to security intelligence concerns. These measures were taken to ensure public safety amidst looming threats.

While Ndim Jacob did not specify who might be behind the threats, he suggested that the appeal of his campaign plans might be the root cause of the challenges he faces. Despite the obstacles, he remains determined to pursue his presidential ambitions.

Ndim Jacob’s campaign, titled “Rescue 2025,” is built on a six-point strategy aimed at revitalizing Cameroon’s economy and addressing systemic issues. His vision includes restoring Cameroon’s “lost glory” through youth development and sports, establishing an egalitarian society valuing everyone, and rebuilding the educational system based on merit and professionalism to enhance development and transform livelihoods.

If elected, Ndim pledges to eradicate corruption and combat nepotism and favoritism, while also promoting national unity and integration to foster a sense of belonging among Cameroonians. He emphasizes agriculture, mineral exploitation, and energy supply as critical components to creating a more productive, buoyant, and competitive economy.

Regarding the ongoing conflicts in the Far North, North West, and South West regions, Ndim Jacob advocates for dialogue as a means to resolve these issues after stabilizing the state and its institutions.

Ndim Jacob Ngong, born on January 9, 1990, to Cameroonian parents, originates from Njinikom subdivision, Boyo Division, North West region. He is a farmer and teacher by profession, married, and a father of three.
