Bawumia meets Black Stars players ahead of CAR clash


The Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, on Monday visited the Black Stars ahead of the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Central Africa Republic (CAR).

Dr Bawumia is in the Ashanti Region for a three-day tour and took the opportunity to meet the players and technical team of the Black Stars to encourage them.

Vice President Bawumia congratulated the players on their win against Mali last Thursday and charged them to beat the Central Africa Republic in today’s encounter.

The Black Stars arrived in Kumasi last Friday to prepare for the CAR after stunning Mali in Bamako on matchday 3 of the World Cup qualifiers.

The Black Stars have accumulated six points from three matches and sit joint top of Group I with Madagascar and Comoros.

The Vice President is expected to be at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for the game tonight.

Ghana hopes to make a return to the World Cup tournament for the fifth time in the United States, Mexico and Canada in 2026.

Ghan
a qualified for its maiden World Cup in 2006, where it reached the 1/16 stage, and qualified for the 2010, 2014 and 2022 respectively.

The Black Stars best performance was in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa where it reached the quarter final stage.

It was eliminated in the group stages in both 2014 and 2022 World Cups.

Vice-President Bawumia is a soccer enthusiast and has been mobilising support for the Black Stars in the past.

Kamzong Abessolo wins 20th edition of Cameroon International Cycling Tour


The yellow jersey of the 2024 Cameroon International Cycling Tour has been won by renowned Cameroonian cyclist, Kamzong Abessolo who led the competition from start to end.

He finished first in the opening and fifth laps of the race and maintained a lead in the overall classification which summed up to 20 hours 59 mins 9 secs.

The final stage of 107.7 km, run from Ngoulemakong in the Mvilla division of the South region to the 20th May Boulevard in Yaounde on Sunday, was won by Ivorian Cisse Issiaka.

Issiaka won the yellow jersey in the previous edition in 2023. He finished fourth this year.

The 20th edition of the Cameroon International Cycling Tour kicked off on May 31 in Maroua and ended on June 9 at the 20th May Boulevard in Yaounde.

North West elites hand over 75 million to Bamenda Main Market fire victims

The elites from the North West, along with other supporters, have raised 75.6 million FCFA for the victims of the Bamenda Main Market fire incident, as reported by The Observer.

On June 7, a committee responsible for distributing the resources equally among the victims was established in Bamenda. This committee includes the City Mayor of Bamenda, the Traders’ Association President, the CBC Executive President, representatives from the Governor’s office, the Archbishop of Bamenda, and the PCC Moderator.

Starting June 11, victims can collect their support at OPSECS. Minister Delegate at the Ministry of External Relations in charge of the Commonwealth, Felix Mbayu expressed his empathy for the victims, stating, ‘When we heard about the fire incident, we felt your pain.’

He acknowledged the market’s significance as a source of livelihood for the victims and as the commercial center of the entire region.

The representatives of the victims conveyed deep gratitude for the assistance recei
ved. They urged the City Mayor to prioritize the reconstruction of the market.

City Mayor Paul Achombong revealed that an extraordinary Council session would soon be convened to discuss and begin the reconstruction process.

Official reports indicate that 292 shops were destroyed, affecting 439 traders during the fire incident in February 2024.

Hajj 1445: Over 300 Moroccan Pilgrims Benefited from ‘Road to Makkah’ Initiative Till June 09 (Saudi Security Official)


Jeddah – More than 300 Moroccan pilgrims have benefited from the ‘Road to Makkah’ initiative for the year 1445 H, said, on Sunday in Jeddah, Colonel Talal Al-Shalhoub, security spokesman for the Saudi Ministry of Interior.

In a statement to MAP, Al-Shalhoub said that Moroccan pilgrims have benefited for the second year running from this initiative, which aims to facilitate the journey of Moroccan pilgrims to the Holy Places.

He also commended the level of cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Morocco to ensure the success of this initiative, emphasizing the commitment of all parties concerned to provide the necessary facilities for Moroccan pilgrims.

He added that this year’s renewal of the ‘Road to Makkah’ was the ‘best illustration’ of this cooperation, noting the willingness of all parties concerned to work together to provide an excellent service to pilgrims, to ensure that their stay was as pleasant as possible.

For his part, Lieutenant-General Suleiman bin Abdulaziz Al-Yahya, Director General of Pass
ports in Saudi Arabia and Chairman of the ‘Road to Makkah’ initiative, praised the high level of Moroccan-Saudi cooperation in the implementation of this initiative, which enables pilgrims to benefit from quality service.

He stressed that the full support of Moroccan pilgrims and the Moroccan government for this initiative facilitates the achievement of its objectives, which are essentially to make the pilgrimage a pleasant and less arduous experience.

One of the first flights of the ‘Road to Makkah’ beneficiaries from Morocco arrived at Medina’s Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz international airport on May 26.

Launched six years ago by the Saudi Ministry of Interior, this year’s ‘Road to Makkah’ provides for the setting up of dedicated rooms in 11 airports in 7 countries, namely Morocco, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkey and Côte d’Ivoire.

The ‘Road to Makkah’ initiative aims to provide pilgrims in beneficiary countries with quality services in terms of transport, reception and procedures, f
rom online visa issuance to baggage screening and reception on arrival.

Hajj Season 1445: Official Moroccan Delegation Leaves for Holy Sites of Islam


Salé – The official Moroccan pilgrimage delegation left Rabat-Salé airport on Monday morning, bound for the Holy Sites of Islam, to perform the Hajj rite for the year 1445 H.

Led by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Ryad Mezzour, the delegation includes the Wali-national coordinator of the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH), Mohamed Dardouri, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice, Abderrahim Miad, the Director of Legal Affairs and Treaties at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Hassan El Asri, and the doctor Colonel Noureddine Baba.

In a statement to the press, Mezzour said he was honored by the confidence placed in him by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who had entrusted him with leading the official delegation to the Holy Sites of Islam as well as providing assistance and support to Moroccan pilgrims in carrying out their rite in complete serenity.

In this respect, he emphasized the High Solicitude with which His Majesty King Mohammed
VI, Commander of the Faithful, surrounds Moroccan pilgrims, so that they can perform the Hajj in the best possible conditions, recalling the contents of the Royal Message addressed to Moroccan pilgrims heading for the Holy Sites of Islam in the year 1445 H.

In this message, which was read out by Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq, the Sovereign called on pilgrims to represent their country during the great Hajj season in the best way possible, by adhering to the quintessential values of Islam.

“You must be reminded that during the Hajj season you are expected to embody the lofty values of Islam, including those of integrity, proper treatment of others, solidarity and sincerity when turning to the Lord of the Worlds. You must also represent your country properly and reflect its time-honoured civilization, in the same way my ancestors did throughout the centuries”, emphasized the Sovereign.

This year, the number of Moroccan pilgrims amounts to 34,000, of whom 22,500 are managed by the M
inistry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, while travel agencies supervise 11,500 pilgrims.

A total of 738 administrators, Ulema, doctors and media professionals, including 520 escorts and supervisors, are mobilized in support of these pilgrims.
