The President of the Republic, Head of State, HE Mohamed Bazoum, received on Friday July 29, 2022, the German Ambassador to Niger, Mr. Hermann Nicolaï.

The meeting between the two personalities focused on the state of bilateral cooperation between Niger and Germany, in particular the results of this cooperation over the past decades, said the German diplomat.

“I mainly came with a proposal from the Government of Germany, the Government of Norway, UNDP and OCHA to follow up on the Lake Chad Basin Conferences held in Oslo, Norway in 2017 and in Berlin, Germany. in 2018,” he said.

Following these conferences, several activities are carried out for the benefit of the Lake Chad basin. Given the developments since 2018, it is planned to hold another conference on the Lake Chad Basin in Niger and the President has accepted this proposal, said Mr. Hermann Nicolaï.

Thus, Niger and the initiators of the previous conferences will organize a conference on the Lake basin, at the end of this year, to adapt the instruments resulting from the previous conferences, to improve the situation in this basin and to react to new needs. , he explained.

“We are in a situation where the issue of sustainable development, beyond humanitarian assistance, has become more important than four years ago,” he stressed.
