During his presser about the annual performance today, INSA Director-General Solomon Soka stated that 6,959 attempts of cyber-attacks were made against Ethiopia in the past year.
Out of these total 6,959 attempts, INSA thwarted 6,768 cyber-attacks and the remaining 191 were successful, Solomon explained.
This way, he elaborated, INSA was able to save Ethiopia from 23.2 billion Birr worth damage.
According to him, financial institutions, security institutions, media, health and higher education institutions, ministries and regional offices were among the targets of the cyber-attacks.
The types of cyber-attacks that have been widely attempted include service interruption and penetration on infrastructures as well as website attacks, he pointed out.
INSA has also been carrying out fruitful work focusing on three selected sectors based on risk and vulnerability, namely the media, security and infrastructures administering institutions, Solomon pointed out.
The administration has protected the country from damages that would have otherwise been caused by avoiding attacks and dangerous security threats.
Accordingly, INSA has saved 23.2 billion birr by preventing the cyber-attacks on the country.
The director general assured that the Information Network Security Administration will continue to work with partners to ensure digital sovereignty of the country.
He further explained that if the attempted cyber attacks were successful they would have caused disruption of infrastructures, services delivery, and income that harm the country.
