Hilda Bassey Completes 100 Hours Of Marathon Cooking

A Nigerian chef, Miss Hilda Bassey has stopped marathon cooking at 100 hours.

She extended her marathon cooking hours to 100 hours after she hit her initial 96-hour target.

Miss Bassey popularly known as Hilda Baci was initially scheduled to stop at 4 pm Nigerian time culminating into her former 96-hour target but stopped at Nigerian 8 pm to achieve a 100-hour target

The Nigerian Chef has continued to receive an outpour of love and support from Nigerians, both leaders, celebrities and followers.

The world awaits official recognition by Guinness World Records to announce Miss Hilda Baci as the current holder for the longest cooking time by an individual.

The Guinness Book of Records however responded on their official Twitter that there has to be a review of all evidence of Miss Baci’s cooking endeavour before officially confirming a record.

Encomiums have continued to pour in for Hilda Bassey who on Monday, broke the world record for the longest cooking time by an individual.

President Muhammadu Buhari joined the joy of celebrations as 27-year-old gourmet chef, Hilda Bassey Effiong, made history by breaking the world record of longest hours of cooking, finding her way into the Guinness Book of Records.

President of the Nigerian Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has congratulated Nigerian chef, Hilda Baci, for breaking the world record in the cooking marathon.

Senator Lawan says Baci’s feat is a reminder to the entire world that Nigerians are talented and capable of excelling in any endeavour.

In a statement issued on Monday, Senator Lawan said; “Celebrated Hilda Baci for breaking Guinness World record in ‘longest cooking time.”

“You have made us proud by again showing to the entire world that we have all it takes to excel in any task we set our hands-on.”

The Senate President commended the Lagos State government for the tremendous support it gave Baci to showcase herself and Nigeria to the world.

In a similar vein, the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, felicitated the young chef on her record-breaking achievement

“It was a remarkable display of the Nigerian can-do attitude and the spirit of excellence that lies within.

“We are all deeply proud of her.”

Reacting, Sanwo-Olu in a tweet on Monday, revealed that he was privileged to visit and taste her dishes on Sunday.

According to the governor, Hilda’s dedication to her cooking profession is unparalleled.

He wrote, “Huge congratulations to Chef Hilda Baci on breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest hours spent cooking.

“I had the privilege of visiting and tasting her amazing dishes yesterday.

“The flavour, passion and dedication she puts into her work are unparalleled. Hilda, you’ve made Lagos proud, and your accomplishment is a testament to the Nigerian spirit.”

Also, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has lauded the world record feat attained by Hilda, saying that the young chef’s effort is a perfect example of the nation’s core essence.

Mr Obi in a statement shared on Facebook, said Hilda Baci’s labour to beat the current Guinness World Record for cooking for 4 days nonstop shows the true Nigerian spirit of hardwork and resilience.

The former Anambra State governor applauded the young culinary expert’s determination and focus on the goal, which he asserts is “Inspiring many Nigerian youths to live their dreams through hardwork and dedication.”

Similarly, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, took to Facebook to share in the joy.

“A proud nation thanks you for cooking Nigeria into the Guinness Book of Records.”

Meanwhile, Dana Air one of Nigeria’s leading airlines has announced its support for the Guinness World Record-breaking Chef Hilda Baci, with one year of free tickets for all her domestic travels and her Mum gets 3 months of free flights.

Speaking on the support for Hilda Baci, the Chief Operating Officer of Dana Air, Ememobong Ettete, said; “We have always blazed the trail in terms of support for the arts and entertainment industry, health care, and culture and our corporate social responsibility has been all-encompassing.”

“We will be supporting Hilda’s local travels for one year and We are inspired by her strength and determination for greatness. “We understand her mum is also a chef and she must have gotten this inspiration from her and in the light of this, we shall be supporting her mum with 3 months of local flights for free. We thank Hilda’s mum for giving us an amazing daughter and for being a huge support system to Hilda.

“We thank all those who came out to dispassionately support one of our own. You are the real MVP”. He added.

Background

Hilda beat Indian chef, Lata Tondon, who currently holds that title. Tondon, achieved his Guinness World feat in 2019 with 87 hours and 45 minutes of uninterrupted cooking.

The 27-year-old started cooking on Thursday 11th May 2023 and surpassed India’s Lata Tondon who set the record with 87 hours 45mins in 2019.

Hilda was born on September 20, 1996. She hails from Akwa-Ibom state.

The Nigerian chef has a degree in Sociology from Madonna University, Okija.

She owns a food brand in Lagos called “My Food by Hilda.” Hilda started this brand with her brother while still in school.

Hilda also ran a cooking segment ‘In My Kitchen,’ on Rave TV’s breakfast show, Morning Rave, as well as the show Dine on A Budget, on Pop Central TV.

She’s also appeared in multiple Nigerian TV shows and movies. She played a supporting lead character in the movie “Dream Chaser,” and appeared in some episodes of Sideways, Flatmates, A Walk on the Water, and Mr & Mrs Robert.
